I don't remember when I first read one of Nikki Giovanni's poems. It may have been in college, it may have been a year or two after. Her book Love Poems traveled with me as I moved countless times during my twenties - it soothed my soul when my heart was broken. Whenever I open this book, I find something new. Here is the one that jumped out at me today....
Love Is
Some people forget that love istucking you in and kissing you
"Good night"
no matter how young or old you are
Some people don't remember that
love is
listening and laughing and asking
questions
no matter what your age
Few recognize that love is
commitment, responsibility
no fun at all
unless
